Our story

Our story together, began in one of the largest primary schools in Victoria where 2 teachers literally knocked down a wall to bring their classes together and share their knowledge.

In the years that followed, our classroom teacher experience highlighted the value of supporting students to have a positive relationship with learning and to build on their prior experiences.

We then began our journey into leadership, as Leading Teachers, we led Professional Learning Communities through the use of current data to support the growth of every student across the year level.

We further cemented this knowledge as Whole School Numeracy Leaders where we were able to extend our impact even further, to reach the 70 teachers working in the school. We soon realised we couldn’t physically be in every classroom as regularly as we would like, but we could have a lasting impact in planning. This is where our passion for collaborative and research based planning began.

In 2016, NJ Education Consultants was officially born and we began supporting schools across Melbourne and regional areas. We support teachers in schools through on-site tailored coaching, consulting and through online professional development.

In this role we continue to deepen our knowledge and understanding as we apply our coaching to a range of settings.

Being experienced educators, we have an understanding of the day to day pressure on teachers, this inspires us to think innovatively about how we can engage teachers in professional learning. We aim to empower teachers to focus on the right work and give their students the best possible maths experience they can.

As educational professionals we feel our work is far from done. Our passion lies in reaching as many teachers as possible to realise the power of meeting students at their point of need. We strive to empower teachers to support students to grow up with a love of maths and a drive for curiosity.

JESSICA BATINOVIC

  • Over 13 years of experience in education.     
  • Held various positions within schools, including PLT Leader, Leading Teacher and Numeracy Whole School Leader.
  • Critical Friend and Project Manager for a Not-for-profit Education Organisation
  • As Numeracy consultant, Jessica is passionate about developing teacher confidence to deliver targeted and informed maths instruction. 
  • Focuses on supporting teachers to reach their full potential.

Jessica’s passion and interest for education began as early as Grade 3 thanks to a teacher that inspired her love of learning. This teacher taught the value of striving for true understanding, and as a result Jessica can still recall the mathematical strategies, she learnt that year. Jessica continued to deepen her understanding of maths and once again this was complimented by another inspiring teacher in her secondary education. She now reflects on her own educational experiences and realises the power that teachers have in just one year, to inspire students to find and develop their academic passions. As an experienced teacher, leader, coach and consultant, Jessica’s main priority is to inspire as many teachers as possible so that more students will have a positive and memorable learning experience with lasting impacts on their educational journey.

  • As Numeracy consultant, Nicole uses a hands-on approach when working with teams or individuals by developing and supporting the implementation of a cycle of professional learning that includes modelling and planning.

Nicole was inspired to pursue a career in education because of her own primary maths experience that focused solely on rote learning. In her early teaching, she still believed she did not have a ‘maths brain’ and would naturally lean towards literacy. It wasn’t until she was able to work with an inspirational maths consultant that she realised the power of building her own and students’ positive relationships with maths. She now ensures all teachers and students understand that a ‘maths brain’ is a complete fallacy and she has a passion for inspiring young people to approach maths with curiosity and enjoyment.  Her work now as an Education Consultant sees her guiding schools to implement research based approaches, focusing on improving learning outcomes for all students.
