Our story
Our story began in one of the largest primary schools in Victoria, where two teachers quite literally knocked down a wall between their classrooms.
What started as a practical decision quickly became a powerful reminder of the impact of collaboration, shared expertise, and collective problem-solving.
As our careers progressed, we found ourselves increasingly drawn to supporting other teachers and exploring ways to improve student learning beyond our own classrooms. We saw the difference that knowledgeable teachers and effective instructional practices could make, and we wanted to extend that impact further.
That desire led to the creation of NJ Education Consultants in 2016.
Since then, we have had the privilege of partnering with schools across Melbourne and regional Victoria, working alongside educators and leaders to strengthen teaching practice and improve outcomes for students.
Today, our work continues to be shaped by the same spirit that brought us together all those years ago: collaboration, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to supporting teachers and schools. While much has changed since we first knocked down that classroom wall, the reason we started remains the same—to help create the conditions where teachers and students can thrive.

NICOLE THOMPSON
- Over 18 years of experience in education.
- Sessional Tutor in Mathematics at RMIT University.
- Experienced school leader, including roles as Leading Teacher, PLT Leader, and Whole-School Numeracy Leader.
- Critical Friend and Project Manager for a not-for-profit education organisation.
- Partners with schools to strengthen mathematics education, instructional practice, and teacher professional learning through evidence-informed improvement initiatives.
Nicole is passionate about helping schools strengthen teaching practice and improve outcomes for all learners. With expertise in mathematics education and instructional improvement, she partners with teachers and leaders to build evidence-informed practices that are practical, sustainable, and impactful.
Her work focuses on developing teacher expertise, strengthening curriculum implementation, and supporting schools to create positive learning experiences that lead to lasting improvement in student achievement.

Our work is grounded in research and focused on improving instructional practice across the curriculum. We support schools to develop evidence-informed approaches to teaching, assessment, curriculum planning, and professional learning that leads to lasting improvement.
In mathematics, we bring deep expertise in curriculum, pedagogy, and concept development. We believe students develop mathematical understanding when knowledge is carefully sequenced, explicitly taught, and connected over time.
Sustainable improvement happens when schools build shared practices, collaborative cultures, and strong implementation. We partner with schools to create the conditions that enable teachers to strengthen their practice and every student to learn, grow, and succeed.
